Why is sick pay cover important?
If you are self-employed you have to go through Employment and Support Allowance. The assessments usually take 13+ weeks and the payments usually aren’t enough either.
For most people these benefits aren’t enough to support their lifestyle, and finances can get tough pretty quickly. Sick Pay cover can reduce this worry.
If you’re not convinced that a Sick Pay Insurance policy is worth considering, read these employment stats.
So, how does ESMI Sick Pay Insurance work?
- ESMI Sick Pay Insurance replaces your income with up to a maximum of 6 monthly-paid benefits up to £1,500.
- To apply for cover you must be aged 18 to 61 and permanently reside in either England, Scotland or Wales.
- There is a choice between 3 benefit levels: £500, £1,000 or £1,500.
- Please make sure you choose an appropriate level for you.
- Your benefit cannot exceed 75% of gross income but less any other similar insurances or wages or work related income. If an accident or illness is covered by any other insurance policy or your salary is paid by your employer, we will not pay more than our proportional share of a claim as you cannot receive more than 100% of your gross monthly salary across all policies held. We do not take into account any Statutory Sick Pay benefits received.
- Claims can only be made after 30 consecutive days of work absence.
- There is a 30 day waiting period (we will not pay out for the first 30 days off sick)
- There is a 90 day qualifying period on all illnesses and a 14 day qualifying period for all accidents. Please read the policy document for more information.
- The benefits are paid entirely tax-free.
- We will pay benefits for up to a maximum of 6 months or until you are able to return to work, whichever comes first.
- Annually renewable policy up until your 69th birthday, and you’re free to cancel any time.
- You must be actively working more than 16 hours a week when you renew your policy so if you are off sick at the point of renewal we will be unable to renew your policy.
What is a pre-exsiting condition?
Any condition, injury, illness, disease or related condition and/or associated symptoms, whether diagnosed or not, which you suffered in the 36 months immediately before the start date of this insurance which an insured person knew about or should reasonably have know about or had seen a doctor or consultant about.
Are pre-exsiting conditions excluded?
We will not pay any benefit for any pre-existing medical condition unless the insured person has been symptom free and has not required treatment or medical advice for at least 24 months in a row immediately after the policy start date
If the cause of your sickness or injury which has caused work-absence longer than 30 days is not deemed directly or indirectly related to your condition when you come to claim, then your benefit will, of course, be paid.
